The first edition was intended to serve as a teaching guide and ready reference for postgraduate students and practitioners of pediatric gastroenterology and hepatology as well as for general pediatricians. In this second edition, we have added both depth and range of subjects, based on valuable feedback. As in the first edition, this edition also contains contributions from both Indian and internationally renowned pediatric gastroenterologists and hepatologists, who are stalwarts in their areas of expertise. This edition has 45 chapters (8 more chapters than the first edition). Topics that have received special attention include inflammatory bowel disease, neurogastroenterology, celiac disease, and cow milk protein allergy, all of which have been discussed in greater detail, incorporating recent research. This edition also draws the reader attention to aspects of pediatric gastroenterology and hepatology which have made rapid advances in recent years such as the role of genetics in pediatric gastrointestinal and liver disease, endoscopy, and liver transplantation.
